March in Montreal

Well it has been a little while since we posted, but here goes! We love Montreal, all the missionaries, the people, the view from our apartment, the changeable weather and so many other things!

Shortly after our arrival, we parked at the church and walked across the freeway to the Metro (subway) to go downtown and get our metro cards. The other senior couple in our building were our guides. Elder and Sister Andersen from Pocatello, ID.
We will post more later, perhaps sooner than 8 months!

We are assigned to work with a branch for Mandarin Chinese members, they are amazing and we are learning lots from them. We are the third couple to serve with them, the third couple from Arizona to be precise! First were Elder and Sister King from Peoria, then Elder and Sister Peck from Peoria and now the Hawkers from Chandler/Glendale!

Chandler Stake Trek and Road Trip East (March April 09

Here we are at the Chandler Stake Handcart Trek. We were called as the Stake Trek Coordinators and we loved the calling. There were 175 youth that were on the Trek and they all did great. It was a hard Trek!! Luckily, we did not have to do the Trek, we were there to organize and direct. It was a wonderful experience for us and for all involved.

Wyatt came to church with us when we were all to wear our Pioneer clothes. Since Kyle had a beard, we thought that Wyatt should have one also. Everyone loved him!!

We then went on to a 30 Day roadtrip back East. We stopped at Sante Fe, Wichita, Branson, Williamsburg, Raleigh, Houston Texas, etc. This snake was a friendly critter that we visited with at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg.

Valerie really loved this hot dog hat and others she saw at Busch Gardens!!

Relaxing in beautiful garden in Williamsburg.

We are with Lis in Upland, CA, after a lovely drive with Christie! The pic is of the 4 of us intrepid adventurers! Lisa (our niece, Lis' daughter) will take us all to the airport in the morning for our flight. We travel LAX-Houston for a 1 hour layover then on to San Jose, Costa Rica arrive at 8:45PM. We have arranged for a shuttle from the timeshare to pick us up at the airport and deliver us safely to our condo for the first week. We are all very excited and looking forward to the adventures to come.

Upcoming Hawker Adventures

After months of planning, we depart on Saturday for our trip to Costa Rica! We are traveling with Lis Johnson (my brother Bob's widow, I hate the way that sounds but can't think of an easier way to explain the relationship!) and our next door neighbor, Christie Fluegal. Lis and Christie will be roomates on the trip. We are all very excited to spend 2 weeks exploring the wonders of Costa Rica. Kyle, Christie and I are driving to Lis' house on Saturday, we will spend the night there and then all of us will fly on the same flight out of LAX. We hope you will look in to see what we are up too!
